Montessori Learning Center
Montessori is a multi-age setting. The children learn from each other and they learn because of each other. Older children have the opportunity to share their knowledge with the younger children. Younger children get a chance to look ahead and see what is coming by watching older children. Because of their constant interaction, the children learn to take responsibility for themselves and for each other. They learn to get along and respect each other's work and space and to treat one another with courtesy. Children work and learn at their own pace.
Montessori preschool classroom is a "prepared environment". The space is designed to facilitate independent learning and exploration by the child. All furniture is child-sized and all the materials are scaled to fit a preschooler's body. The space is divided into four distinct areas: practical life exercises, sensorial, language and mathematics. However, no subject is taught in isolation during Montessori working time.
Childhood happens only once. Give them a Montessori education that will last a lifetime.
Main Subject Areas:
Practical Life - These activities aid the child's need for independence, concentration, coordination of movements, and knowledge of the world around them.
Sensorial - Through sight, sound, touch, smell and taste, these materials enable them to explore, classify, clarify and focus the senses to prepare children for mathematical learning.
Language - The Montessori method follows a phonetic-based approach. Children progress from refinement of oral language into composing words, phrases, sentences and writing whole stories using the movable alphabet. Writing and reading are often acquired spontaneously.
Mathematics - It is an exploration of numbers and numerical quantities and introduces simple arithmetic and the decimal system.
Other subject areas include art, culture, history, geography, science, music and grace and courtesy.
A typical day involves Montessori work time, outdoor play, gross motor activities, and story and music time. Snack and lunch, as well as an hour nap time take place in the afternoon.
"The young child is dependent on adults for many things, but the most important is a sense of being cared for." Maria Montessori
